About Interfaith Health Service
Several area congregations joined together to discuss the formation of a faith-based Health ministry outreach program within the community. The interested congregations asked area agencies and institutions to provide resources and expertise to support the project. This project will promote health of the body, mind and spirit with the congregations and communities they serve. This organization anticipates growth.
IHS’s Foundational Principles:
- We believe that Health Ministry is recognizing that we are created creatures and live in relationship with God, God’s creation and one another. Our health is dependent upon the well-being of our physical, social, mental, emotional and spiritual components being in harmony with God, God’s creation and one another. Health Ministry is the mission and ministry of the faith community to its members and the community it serves, empowering people to take greater responsibility for their health and well-being. It emphasizes a wholeness of life, salvation, and shalom.
- We believe Holistic Health is the prevention of barriers and promotion of growth toward well-being of body, mind and spirit and harmonious relationships with God and others. Holistic Health results in life’s fullness and potential.
- We believe that we are called to become communities of grace, joy, and peace so that God’s Healing and Hope can flow through us to the world around us. Healing and hope comes from the process of integrating body, mind, and spirit to achieve wholeness and a sense of well-being even when the curing of disease may not occur.
- We believe that Congregational Uniqueness will result in individualized program development, implementation and growth.
- We believe that our Collaborative Partnership provides a strong infrastructure to support interactions and activities among the faith communities, healthcare providers and college personnel to address the needs identified by the community.
